  • Computational Biologist

    Position Summary:

    Tango, a 2017 “Fierce 15” company, is an exciting new oncology company launched by Third Rock Ventures, one of Boston’s premier biotech funding groups. Our focus is on identifying synthetic lethal interactions to discover and develop new breakthrough cancer therapies.

    Our discovery efforts begin and end with patients. We invert the traditional discovery paradigm by putting patient selection before target identification. We use deep DNA sequencing and CRISPR-based screening to identify novel targets for specific subgroups of cancer patients. Our goal is to leverage the principles of synthetic lethality to find novel weaknesses in cancer cells and use them to provide a roadmap to cures. As we advance our molecules into the clinic, our trials will enroll the patients most likely to benefit from our new treatments; thereby enabling greater speed, success, and impact for those patients.

    We are seeking an innovative, collaborative and enthusiastic computational scientist to work on a variety of high-dimensional bioinformatics projects centered on target identification, drug discovery and translational research. The individual will integrate internal and external datasets, including next generation sequence data. The successful candidate will be one who can develop novel methods, analysis strategies and tools to filter and distill multi-dimensional datasets to generate focused hypotheses to drive primary research. A critical component of the job will be the close collaboration with multi-disciplinary internal discovery teams and external collaborators. This individual will be a critical thought leader in the company, collaborating closely with discovery and development scientists.

    Job Responsibilities:

    • Design and evaluate integrative approaches to the analysis of NGS cancer exome and transcriptome data, as well as other high-throughput data types
    • Apply machine learning/statistical-based approaches to establish and benchmark predictive models of biological/chemical data
    • Develop innovative, robust, analysis pipelines that can be applied in a research and clinical setting
    • Develop and contribute to external collaborations and partnerships
    • Liaise with lab scientists and software engineers as a project team member and provide expertise as a scientific resource

    Qualifications:

    • MS or Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, or related fields with 3+ years of industry experience; equivalent academic or professional experience will be considered
    • Expertise in computational biology, genomics and other high-throughput data platforms with an aptitude to apply experimental methods to understand disease biology and drug discovery
    • Demonstrated ability to formulate and test hypotheses by designing and implementing computational approaches, ability to effectively interpret and communicate conclusions from complex data is essential
    • Proficient programming skills and computational analysis background
    • Prioritize and work independently to complete tasks and advance projects with minimal supervision
    • Ability to work effectively with internal and external collaborators and multidisciplinary teams composed of scientists and non-scientists to translate emerging research to guide internal programs
    • Proficient written and verbal communication skills, particularly of complex information and concepts
    • Working knowledge of oncology and/or immunology preferred

    Other ideal areas of scientific expertise:

    • Significant experience in the analysis of high-throughput DNA and RNA high-throughput sequencing data, including alignment, quality measurements, variant calling, fusion discovery and transcript quantification
    • Fundamental statistics and machine learning applications to life sciences

    • Experience with mining public data sets, such as TCGA
    • Technical proficiencies should include: Linux in a grid and/or cloud environment, experience with cloud computing preferred

  • Associate Scientist, Biochemistry

    Position Summary:

    We are seeking a biochemist/enzymologist to work on these exciting new targets, as an integral member of the biochemistry group across multiple programs. The successful candidate will have experience in drug discovery characterizing enzymes and protein targets, setting up microtiter plate assays and determining the affinity of inhibitors to guide structure activity relationships. An appreciation of kinetics and thermodynamics, and the flexibility to work on multiple targets is important for this position.

    Job Responsibilities:

    • Perform laboratory-based research in a collaborative multidisciplinary team environment under minimal supervision
    • Develop microtiter plate-based biochemical assays for screening, identification and characterization of drug-like small molecule ligands and inhibitors of protein drug targets
    • Optimize existing assay protocols and apply routine assays for quality control of protein constructs
    • Communicate and engage with contract research organizations
    • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment such as multimodal microplate readers
    • Independently summarize, analyze and present your work to project and senior leadership teams; document the data using ELN

    Qualifications:

    • Deep understanding of enzymology and enzyme kinetics
    • BS/MS in Biochemistry or related field with a minimum of five years relevant industry experience
    • Understanding of how to scale up and troubleshoot assays is required; experience working with CROs strongly preferred
    • Experience with HTS a decided asset
    • Familiarity with fluorescence spectroscopy including FRET and FP assays
    • Familiarity with radiolabeled assays, including filter binding
    • Cloning, expression and purification experience a plus
    • Ability to work in a cross-functional team environment and a flexible team-oriented perspective is essential
    • Strong attention to detail and the ability to multi-task required
    • Strong verbal and written communications skills required

  • Discovery Biology Director

    Position Summary:

    Tango Therapeutics is looking for a highly creative and self-motivated Ph.D scientist with adamant intellectual curiosity and a drive to excel at the highest level to lead a team of scientists aiming to fulfill the promise of next generation cancer therapeutics. The successful candidate will work independently within in a team to discover/validate drug targets and gain insights on pathway biology.     Job Responsibilities:

    • Independently design, develop and execute cancer biology experiments focused on identification and validation of new drug targets, and drive responder hypothesis and PD/biomarker discovery in a team environment.
    • Proactively review literature to bring in newest scientific findings, ideas, and methods/technologies for discovery research.
    • Work cross-functionally with chemistry and High Throughput Screening to develop cell based assays and lead development and optimization
    • Responsible for facilitating drug discovery process from discovery through pre-clinical development

    Qualifications:

  • Medicinal Chemistry Principal Scientist

    Position Summary:

    The successful candidate will:

    • Be responsible for the design and execution of medicinal chemistry programs that lead to the identification of drug candidates for clinical development
    • Integrate aspects of the entire drug R&D process, with emphasis on hit finding through lead optimization, ADME/PK, pharmacology and toxicology
    • Prioritize medicinal chemistry plans and manage external chemists and collaborations to deliver small molecule development candidates on aggressive time lines
    • Actively follow and integrate scientific advancements and literature within the area of research interest

    Job Responsibilities:

    • PhD in Organic Chemistry and 7 years of relevant pharmaceutical industry experience, with demonstrated success in lead optimization programs
    • In-depth knowledge of the entire drug discovery process, with expertise and demonstrated strong skills in medicinal chemistry drug design and discovery
    • Experience functioning within a strong multi-disciplinary team and utilizing physicochemical, biochemical, ADME/PK, and pharmacological data to drive medicinal chemistry strategies is required
    • Success in applying modern and emerging methodologies and technologies to the synthesis of small molecule drug candidates
    • Strong organizational and communication skills within a matrix driven organization
    • Prior experience acting as project or chemistry team lead preferred

  • Lead Immunologist

    Position Summary:

    We are looking for a highly motivated and skilled leader with a strong background in Immuno-oncology/ Immunology to join our team, drug discovery experiences will be a plus

    Job Responsibilities:

    • Serve as a project team leader for early stage targets: define the project strategy and build cross functional teams to drive project progression
    • Devise and execute cancer immunology experiments to support projects from target identification and validation to clinical candidate selection and translational research
    • Establish novel mechanistic insights to identify novel I-O targets
    • Work with CROs and academic collaborators to develop and perform assays to assess the impact of small molecule modulators, shRNA, and/or CRISPR-mediated knockout on cancer and immune cell proliferation/differentiation as well as pathway-based biomarkers
    • Present clearly and succinctly in a variety of team settings
    • Provide mentorship to junior scientists

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Ph.D. in immunology, Immuno-oncology or related field with 8+ years of industry experience
    • Expertise and experience in immunology techniques are required
    • Ability to design, perform and interpret in vitro assays and in vivo studies to demonstrate the impact of modulation of pathways via genetic manipulation or small molecules on immune cell responses
    • Prior experience directing work with external academic or industry collaborators or with contract research organizations
    • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills to work across functions and within external collaborations, and a demonstrated ability to organize and communicate complex data sets in a clear and concise manner to cross-functional audiences

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Demonstrated experience in people management
    • Translation medicine experience
    • Proven experience with small molecule drug discovery including characterization of small molecule drugs

  • Scientist, Cancer Immunology

    Position Summary:

    The successful candidate will be responsible for the discovery and testing of novel cancer immunotherapeutic candidates.

    Job Responsibilities:

    • Designing and conducting experiments aimed at immunomodulation of cellular responses in vitro
    • Developing cellular assays including cancer and immune cell co-culture based assays and ex vivo analyses involving complex flow based analyses
    • Leveraging in vivo model systems to assess efficacy and mechanism of action of candidate therapeutics
    • Conducting functional genomics screens to identify novel targets
    • Training and working closely with research associates
    • Analyzing data and presenting results in a group setting
    • Keeping abreast of new developments in the scientific literature and proposing creative solutions to experimental problems

    Qualifications:

    • PhD or MD in Immunology or a related field with 2+ years of postdoctoral experience in an academic or industrial setting
    • Special consideration will be given to those individuals with experience in cancer immunotherapy
    • Extensive hands-on experience with: flow cytometry and immunological phenotyping, isolation and manipulation of human blood and blood components, in vitro T cell functional assays, in vivo mouse model systems
    • Research experience with CRISPR technology will be favorably considered
    • Detail-oriented, reliable and conscientious, with excellent organizational skills and oral and written communication skills
    • Capable of contributing independently and able to thrive in a highly collaborative, fast-paced, team-oriented environment with colleagues from diverse disciplines
